What is Blackjack?
Blackjack is played in casinos around the world and is known for its simple rules. Winning hands pay even money, and a blackjack usually pays 3:2. Each player plays against the dealer, not against the other players. The game is usually played with one, two, four, six, or eight decks of cards.
Blackjack Rules
Each player is dealt two cards (they can have the same value, for example a pair). Number cards count at face value, so a 2 is a 2, a 6 is a 6 and a 10 is a 10. As for the face cards, each of them stands for 10. An Ace in the game can act as either a 1 or an 11.
The aim is to beat the dealer: finish with a higher total than the dealer without going over 21, or stay in while the dealer goes over 21. To do this, you can ask for more cards (hit) or keep your total (stand). If your total goes over 21, you lose at once. If not, your total is compared only with the dealer's.
A blackjack is an Ace plus any 10-value card as your first two cards. It usually pays 3:2, but it is a push (stake returned) if the dealer also has blackjack (Wizard of Odds' blackjack basics).
